Job Summary Surgery scheduling specialists act as a liaison between patient and physician, schedules all surgeries and pre-operative tests, and counsels patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibility. Duties And Responsibilities Schedules procedures at facility along with any pre-procedure testing required. Obtains precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test. Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure. Discusses pre-operative testing and instructions with the patient, as directed by physicians. Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery/procedure. Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patient and carriers regarding planned surgeries. Maintains communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital at all times. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements And Qualifications ~ Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required. ~4+ years medical office experience; orthopedic setting preferred. ~2+ years prior surgical scheduling experience preferred. ~ EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred. Physical Demands Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Involves standing, sitting, and walking. Team member will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
