The Well-Trained Mind Academy is seeking part-time Mathematics instructors to teach live, online sections of Algebra I based on the Art of Problem Solving curriculum for the 2025-26 school year. Algebra I is a rigorous proof-based math course based on the Art of Problem Solving math curriculum. The school year starts August 11, and we are looking for an instructor to take over already scheduled courses. For the 2025-2026 school year, we are looking to hire for the following sections; all times listed are for the Eastern Time Zone (US): Algebra I - Sect 2 - Mon/Wed/Fri 11 am Algebra I - Sect 3 - Tue/Thr 12-1:15 pm Algebra I - Sect 4 - Tue/Thr 1:30-2:45 pm Course Descriptions Our mathematics program uses a classical education approach. Instructors should be comfortable using socratic discussion in classes and allowing students to experiment with methods of solving problems. Classes are taught live using Blackboard Collaborate. Algebra I (Problem-Solving Approach) meets three times a week for 50-55 minutes or twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Position Description Part-time instructors teach 1-6 sections of 12-15 students each. Qualified and interested instructors will be considered for additional courses in their fields of expertise when they return the following school year. Online teaching experience required. Must be comfortable working with a small focused team, taking academic direction, and cooperating with other mathematics instructors. This position is part-time; instructors are hired on a course-by-course basis. Instructors should have The position advertised is a US-based position. Position requires reliable high-speed internet and the ability to comfortably work using a screen for several hours in a row. Compensation Compensation is $5,600 per section of Problem-Solving math course for the academic year. Tutors are compensated $45/hour. Instructors qualify for tuition remission for their own students (a one-to-one match for every section they teach) and retirement after two years employment. Required Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in the field or a related field Comfortable using Google Drive Experience using conferencing software in an educational setting Experience with Blackboard, Canvas, or another LMS Can comfortably work using a screen for several hours in a row Ability to balance several tasks at once (delivering lessons while also managing chat, addressing student behavior in real time, ability to answer questions in real time) Engaging presentation style, with ability to monitor student engagement and interest Comfortable stepping into a classroom where the primary teacher structured the classroom assignments and expectations Preferred Qualifications Middle school and/or high school teaching experience (in a classroom and/or a homeschool setting.)
