Job Description:
The S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applications for a fulltime faculty position focused on production in the Television Radio & Film (TRF) Department, to start in August, 2024. The successful candidate will teach a variety of production classes. We are looking for a creative, engaging and inventive colleague who can advance the department's reputation as source for stand-out production talent in the entertainment industry.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have significant professional experience in national and/or international entertainment media markets.
  • A masters degree is preferred; a bachelors degree is required.
  • The rank of this position will be determined in light of the candidates experience: from tenure track assistant professor to professor of practice to assistant teaching professor.
  • The department seeks applicants with either a strong teaching record or a clear potential to be an excellent teacher. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a 'hands on' comfort with technology and ability to get into the 'trenches' with students.

Job Specific Qualifications:

  • The TRF Department prides itself on providing students a broad lens on storytelling practices and technologies to maximize outcomes present and future professional outcomes.
  • Candidates must have national or international professional experience ideally working on large sets. They should have a keen understanding of how each crew member contributes to the interdependent production process of a Hollywood-level film and/or television production process.
  • Regardless of candidate specialty (from directing, to producing to production design, to cinematography and lighting)the candidate should demonstrate an ability to connect technology to the enhancement of story experiences for consumers of media.
  • Being versed in current technological trends, a problem solver, and a good team player are essential, as one of the key values and strengths of the school lies in collaboration and interdisciplinary praxis for students and faculty alike.




Responsibilities:

  • Depending on rank, this faculty member will teach up to three classes per semester in our two-semester academic year.
  • Course responsibilities will be across the spectrum, from introductory to advanced-level, based on the professors areas of expertise.
