About the Job
  • Competitive pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Great Schedule: Part Time; 16 hours/week
  • Shift Times: Varies; Tues (12p - 4p REMOTE), Thurs (12p - 4p IN PERSON), Fri (12p - 1p REMOTE) plus 7 additional hours are flexible between 8am - 5p based on clinic needs
  • Duration: 4-months contract initially

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education or closely related field
  • Valid CA Teaching Credentials 
  • Minimum 1 year of classroom teaching experience or equivalent experience in hospital school or educational support setting
  • Strong understanding of individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and accommodations for diverse learning needs
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively liaise with students, families, school districts, and healthcare professionals
  • Ability to assess and adapt educational content to meet the needs of medically fragile or chronically ill students
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple students and tasks efficiently
  • Patience, empathy, and flexibility when working with children and adolescents in a healthcare environment
Preferred
  • Experience with high school students (highly preferred)
  • Creative educational skills for designing individualized lesson plans and engaging learning experiences in nontraditional settings (highly preferred)
  • Previous experience in a hospital, rehabilitation, or pediatric healthcare setting supporting educational or developmental needs
  • Familiarity with 504 Plans and educational transition planning for students returning to school after medical treatment
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) principles
  • EPIC experience

  • Educational Expertise: Strong understanding of K-12 academic subjects, curriculum development, and teaching methodologies 
  • Individualized Instruction: Ability to assess learning styles, modify lessons, and implement individualized education strategies for students with diverse academic and emotional needs. 
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, families, school districts, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. 
  • Liaison & Advocacy: Proven ability to advocate for students' educational needs and facilitate coordination between hospital staff and school systems. 
  • Organization & Time Management: Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks, managing caseloads, and maintaining accurate documentation with a part-time, flexible schedule. 
  • Empathy & Patience: Demonstrated compassion, understanding, and adaptability when working with medically fragile or pain-affected children and adolescents. 
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build trust, establish rapport, and provide motivational support to students and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. 
  • Problem Solving: Resourceful and creative in developing solutions for academic continuity, engagement, and re-entry planning. 
  • Professionalism: Upholds confidentiality, ethical standards, and hospital policies in all interactions with students, families, and staff. 
Responsibilities Educational Support & Instruction

  • Develop and deliver individualized lesson plans and creative learning activities for patients temporarily out of school.

  • Create relevant curricula that align with students’ grade levels and academic goals.

  • Assess each student’s academic progress and adapt instruction to support success across cognitive, social, and emotional domains.

  • Collaborate closely with hospital school teachers, medical staff, parents, and home school districts to ensure educational continuity.

  • Coordinate educational services and transition planning for students returning to school after discharge.

  • Evaluate and summarize learning outcomes and classroom engagement for each student.

  • Provide materials, resources, and instructional support that encourage motivation and academic confidence.

  • Maintain communication with teachers and administrators to discuss educational needs, IEPs, and accommodations.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds to integrate educational goals into each patient’s care plan.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes curiosity, resilience, and personal growth.
