Job Description

Simkhai is searching for a talented Designer who has extensive experience in designing soft dresses to join our Creative team in our West Hollywood studio.

• Design Process Contribution: Collaborate with the Design Director and Creative Director, Jonathan Simkhai, in all stages of the design process. Participate in seasonal concept research, vintage sourcing, garment construction, finishing techniques, fabric treatments, and trim sourcing.
• RTW Woven, Denim, and Covered Up: Design for RTW Woven, denim, and covered up based on a comprehensive understanding of merchandising plans. Interpret the seasonal direction into innovative and commercial designs. Analyze past best and worst sellers for future developments and develop design ideas into cohesive seasonal groups.
• Prototyping & Development: Propose drapes, 3D swatches, fabric manipulations, finishing trials, and thread color trials for product development when sample yardage arrives, and launching denim washes trials.
• Color & Print Design: Create color-ups and print placement layouts on sketches. Design to-scale CAD-focused embroidery trials and layouts for development and SMS.
• Seasonal Boards: Create and maintain seasonal boards featuring inspirations, print concepts, most updated sketches, and trials.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with product development, technical design, in house pattern makers, and sample makers to ensure styles meet design specifications.
• Fittings Participation: Attend and participate in prototype and sample fittings. Take notes and follow up as needed to ensure garment proportions, details, and fit are accurate.
• Lookbook & Seasonal Shoots: Assist in Lookbook fittings, styling, and all preparation for seasonal shoots. Oversee the assistant designer and intern in setting up the showroom with seamless, lighting, and photo equipment, creating digital layouts of the final looks, and preparing supplies for on-set shoots.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Design or similar degree
• Must have a minimum 7 years experience in related position & industry
• Must have experience in designing soft dresses
• Must have demonstrated proficiency in Procreate
• Must have demonstrated proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe software is required.
• Must have demonstrated ability to sketch by hand.
• Must possess an uplifting spirit and a positive, hardworking attitude.
• Must be independent and resourceful.
• Must have demonstrated good sense of color.
• Must have demonstrated textile technical knowledge and print expertise.
• Must have excellent time management, strong communication skills, highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Must have ability to establish good relationships with key parties and department staff.
• Must have flexibility to travel.
• Draping skills are a plus.
